In this episode of Israel’s Best Radio, guest author and genealogist Nadya Lipes discusses her new book based on archival material about the Holocaust in the German-occupied zone of Ukraine. She explains that her book will also feature the diaries of Holocaust survivors who were children at the time and are still alive.

Nadya talks about the process of finding these diaries, as well as her position on the war in Ukraine and how the current situation has affected her work and her perception of the history of the Holocaust and pogroms. She emphasizes that her books touch on uncomfortable truths, such as the Red Army’s involvement in pogroms and the complexity of historical events, which were often not black and white.

The conversation touches on how to write about archival material without it being boring. Nadya also shares her views on ways to survive in a dangerous environment, based on the stories in her book. Finally, her upcoming meetings with readers in Israel and the process of publishing her books are discussed.
